About Us

Who we are and what we're trying to achieve with the Bertie Auld Legacy project?

During his life, Bertie helped a lot of charities and we want to continue the good work. We're delighted to work with a wide range of Scottish charities and we hope to be able to keep supporting them as part of the Bertie Auld Legacy Project.

WHO WE ARE

Head Robert

Robert Auld

Robert Auld started in the Motor Retail Industry in 1985 as a trainee Sales Executive with the Ian Skelly Group. Over the years he excelled in the industry and has been a General Manager for the last 25 years. Currently with The Vertu Group in Glasgow.

Robert has been married to Susan since 1990 and they have a daughter (Lisa) and a Grandaughter (Sienna) who was born in 2021.

Robert was touched by his father’s generosity through the giving of his time almost daily and decided it was far too soon to let Berties fabulously generous legacy fade away.
“I am delighted that Martin McHugh, John Haughey, Ian Cairns and myself have managed to launch the charity and I intend to work tirelessly to ensure that my dad’s work and legacy carry on for many years to come to help the most needy”.

Martin McHugh

I am Chairman of Martec Engineering Group and I am delighted to be invited onto the Board of the Bertie Auld Legacy. Bertie was a long-time close friend. And he like myself always wanted to help anyone who needs support.

We are determined to continue the charity work Bertie did over the last number of years.

I am passionate about helping others and ensuring Bertie Auld will be proud of the work we do in his name.

Our Mission will be very simple, look after those less fortunate.

Head Ian

Ian Cairns

I am a 58-year-old married man with two grown sons Cameron (20) and Ross (18). My wonderful wife and mother to our sons is Donna.

Most of my working life has been spent in a sales environment, laterally in my employed career working for Barclays Bank in the retail finance sector. Having been made redundant at the height of the credit crunch in 2011. I bought into a small business that had been liquidated and help transform them into a successful profitable company. Having sold that company in 2020 I decided to try and create a new business (Cleaning Solutions Scotland) focusing on key values for the staff that are vital to its success. Almost two years in and we are plodding along doing well and creating a good reputation for ourselves on delivering a quality service to our clients.

Family is the most important part of my life and I’m blessed to be surrounded by so many lovely, caring and thoughtful people. Sisters, brothers, in-laws, nieces, nephews, uncles, aunties, cousins there are too many to mention by name, but they encourage and inspire me every day.

Delighted to be part of this great adventure and determined to help make “The Bertie Auld Legacy” as successful as it can be and hopefully help many deserving charities along the way.

John Haughey

I am a 59-year-old father of 2 lovely daughters, I run a thriving commercial garage business that sits within a local community which I have successfully built up and ran for the past 26 years.

I started as a 16-year-old apprentice motor mechanic and have always been passionate and inquisitive about cars and all things mechanical.

Over the years I have, and continue to provide a necessary service and support to my local community as a trusted and long-standing business owner.
In my spare time, I love spending time with my family, playing golf, attending various car events, listening to live music and socialising with friends.

Bertie was a great friend and inspiration to my family and me for 30 years, he was a regular visitor to my garage and had a great relationship with all my clients.
I am honoured to be asked to be a trustee of the Bertie Auld Legacy. I will endeavour to help continue his legacy and provide as much support as possible to all the deserving charities that were close to his heart.

Declan McConville

Declan McConville is a Digital Journalist for GlasgowWorld and is a graduate of the University of Strathclyde where he studied politics and journalism.

He co-founded the Maryhill Bertie Auld CSC in 2018 which started a firm friendship between himself and Bertie Auld. Growing up in Maryhill, Bertie is a local hero and Declan thought it was only right that a bus from the area should be named after the Lisbon Lion who was born on Panmure Street.

Declan always enjoyed spending time in Bertie’s company and loved nothing more than phoning him up for a catch-up. “Bertie Auld was a brilliant friend and someone who always encouraged me.

I was absolutely delighted to be asked by Martin McHugh, Robert Auld, John Haughey and Ian Cairns to help carry on Bertie’s legacy and tireless work.”
